๐Ÿ’ก Grammar & Number Patterns

  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ In French, numbers above 16 start to combine: Dix-sept = 17 ("Ten-seven").
  • ๐Ÿงฉ French uses hyphens often: Vingt-et-un = 21 ("Twenty-and-one").
  • ๐Ÿ“Œ Unlike English, the word for "and" appears only in some numbers like 21, 31, 41... not in others.
  • ๐Ÿ’ฏ For hundreds and thousands, just add: Cent deux = 102, Mille cinq = 1005.

๐Ÿ“˜ Usage in Context

J'ai quinze ans.
I am 15 years old.

Il coรปte trente euros.
It costs 30 euros.

Nous avons cent รฉlรจves.
We have 100 students.

Elle habite au numรฉro vingt-et-un.

๐Ÿง  Did You Know?

  • ๐Ÿ”„ In French, numbers often mix smaller numbers. Example: Dix-sept = 17 (10+7)
  • ๐Ÿงฎ The French word for "80" is literally "4 twenties" โ€” quatre-vingts (4ร—20 = 80!)
  • ๐ŸŽง Numbers like 99 are long: quatre-vingt-dix-neuf = 99 (โ€œ4x20 + 10 + 9โ€)
  • ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Pronounce numbers often! Native speakers say them quickly, so practice slowly and clearly first.
  • ๐Ÿ”ข Once you learn 1โ€“20 and multiples of 10, you can build most numbers easily!
